Soffit

You’re probably thinking… what is a soffit? The soffit is basically, any finishing material, such as wood or fiber cement, that is installed to cover the underside of your roof overhang.

Now, why is this important you may ask? The key word is, ventilation! Heat builds up overtime from the sun shinning on your home and as the energy rises from within, this in turn causes our roofs to overheat. Which can cause your homes shingles to break down quicker and an overheated attic also leads to higher energy bills in the living areas.

Without proper ventilation through your soffit, humidity could build, causing problems such as mold, mildew, and wood rot. Now, although Aesthetics are not as important as the foundation they are secondary and not to be ignored. Soffits provide a finished appearance for your exterior; without them, you would be looking at the rafters making up the underside of your roof’s overhang.
